Kirtan Mantra Chanting - Evening in Edinburgh

Kirtan Chanting Evening, in an informal environment, with fireplace and tea afterwards.

KIRTAN is a call and response chanting practice, one of the most ancient sacred music tradition in the world, originated in the East.

By singing ancient Sanskrit mantras, or other devotional songs, Kirtan is a practice aimed at connecting to each other through the vibration of our voice, and to connect with our higher Self, by quieting the mind, and entering together in a meditative place of inner quiet and stillness.

We use accompaniment instruments such as the harmonium or Shruti box.
(But feel free to some other instruments as there might be the opportunity to playing together - Traditionally Kirtan uses, small drums, tabla, chimes, small cymbals, violins etc..)

Francesco will offer some chanting call and response mantra. However, please feel free to bring along mantra to share (and instrument to play with them)

P.S. this is the first of a Monthly of Forthnightly recurring community event. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Kirtan calls upon sacred energies which serve to quiet the mind, remove inauspicious things from the heart, bring us back to the centre of our own identity and awaken divine peace and love within us.

The word mantra can be broken down into two parts: “man,” which means mind, and “tra,” which means transport or vehicle. In other words, a mantra is an instrument of the mind—a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation.

Like a seed planted with the intention of blossoming into a beautiful perennial, a mantra can be thought of as a seed for energizing an intention. Much in the same way you plant a flower seed, you plant mantras in the fertile soil of practice. You nurture them and over time they bear the fruit of your intention.

You don’t have to be a good singer and everybody is welcome to join. Actually, the more participants, the greater the efficacy.
