What is Zen-Shiatsu Massage?

Zen Shiatsu is a unique form of physical therapy that strengthens the body's natural ability to heal and balance itself.

A shiatsu session will typically last 1 hour and take places on a futon mattress at floor level, with the client fully clothed.

It is a deeply relaxing experience that, like western massage, uses pressure, stretches, holding, joint mobilizations and rocking, to affect the physical structures of the body. Unlike western massage it also works with the body's Qi (Chi) - energy.

It has positive effects on the body's physical structures and the internal organs, but also, the emotions can be touched and helped to heal.

Shiatsu works on the whole person, including the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of well-being. It helps to develop an awareness of the link between the mind and the body. it originated in Japan and literally means "finger pressure". Developing in the west it has incorporated some influence from both Western and Chinese medical traditions.

Shiatsu can provide a safe space to be deeply listened to and the opportunity for peacefulness and quietness.

Shiatsu is based on the principle that vital energy flows throughout the body in channels called meridians. Our health is affected when this energy stops flowing freely. In my treatment I use touch, deep pressure and stretching techniques to promote this flow.Regular treatments can alleviate stress and illness and maintain health and well-being.

Shiatsu can help to harmonize and stabilize the back to let go of tension and pain. Treatment revives and revitalize the area, reintegrating weak zones and improving the connection between different areas of the back

"It's not like other therapies, which just treat the damaged area. It goes from head to toe. the first time I went, I felt I could jump over a car when I came out, I felt that good. I've now been off painkillers fora long time"

Insomnia may be linked to pain and tension caused by excessive period of working on-screen or driving. Using touch shiatsu can help releasing tension in  shoulders and neck. Shiatsu can also help you to focus on your needs and where you want to go in life.

"I was having problems with various aches and pains and with insomnia, and both the Shiatsu and the advice Francesco gave me really helped to restore a balanced sleep pattern"

Stress and Anxiety

Shiatsu offers supportive, attentive touch, essential for healthy human development and especially useful in stress-related conditions. Gentle holding and stretching technique allow muscles to relax, and the heart beat slow down. Anxiety is reduced and the mood lifts.

"I think I had forgotten to let my body relax properly. The sessions reminded me to settle and pay some attention to how it feels. Most relaxed I have been in ages"

Working in partnership with you, I can help you to access the causes of tension and to contact your potential for self-healing. I might give you simple exercises to do at home, including dietary or lifestyle advice. Where it is not possible to alleviate the symptoms Shiatsu can help you to tap into the emotional resources needed to cope with the situation.
